Production Strategy

I will limit my images by utilizing very detached, impersonal images, ie; not taking any pictures where you can physically see any people.

I will limit my sound by only taking sound of city ambiance or electronic noises.

Ten Questions

1.What part of me do I want to represent?
2.Where can I go to represent or invoke these emotions?
3.Are there any unique sites or houses within the area that I wish to choose?
4.What sounds generally plague suburbia?
5.What time of the year is it?
6.How can I use the weather to invoke the emotion I desire?
7.What words can be associated with Suburbia?
8.What can I use within the area to frame certain shots?
9.Do I want the audio to clash with the visual or to compliment it?
10.How will I use street lights

Trek Assessment 04

4. Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from either of your Treks. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much.

Trek 03 was probably my favorite simply because it was the most dynamic. You could use audio and visual cues to invoke different feelings into the viewer and at the same time, you could choose to clash the two instead of compliment.

Trek Assessment 03

3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Treks and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

The first unexpected situation I encountered was when it rained on me during my first Trek 01 attempt. This may count as technology related, but I feel it has to be said anyway. The fact that I was unable to capture the sound of the rain without it disrupting the microphones was very much a reality check. It was a wonderfully violent night, but the moment the rain came I had to run for shelter and unfortunately the rain became nothing but a constant droning to the microphones. On top of that, it ruined one of my microphones. Another unexpected encounter was the incessant electric ambiance that, I felt, plagued the audio portions of my Treks. I really noticed some rather exquisite subtleties of suburban life. It became a fixation to me with my Trek 03, and I found that I could take pictures of places that were completely different, but when I stepped back and looked at the pictures, much of them look the same. I find myself still wondering why people collectively move in to such places that look the same when such repetition invokes a sense of melancholy into a person such as myself.

Trek Assessment 02

2. Describe, with details, two situations during Trek 01 and/or 02 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative.

During Trek 01, I was very peaceful when the wind was blowing gently and I could hear the chimes in the distance. In fact, when I deeply listened into the headphones, closed my eyes, and began to create visualizations of what it was I could be hearing, I found myself entranced by the possibilities. I felt like a voyeur of sound! During Trek 02, I felt at ease when simply walking around and taking pictures of numerous things that interested me, some of which did not necessarily go into my Trek 02 project but still captivated me. One situation was what I believed was a raccoon digging into someone's garbage and eating it. I was recording it from afar and realizing how magnificent it was to actually see this happening, imagining the unnecessarily upset reaction that the owners would have when they saw the mess this hungry animal had left.

Trek Assessment 01

1. Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you during Trek 01 or 02. (Please note that the situation CANNOT be technology-related.).

The fact that we could not use a car at all as a means of transportation was rather troublesome. I think that if we could have made maps that showed where we drove, and then at each driving point we could walk around for at least 1-2 hours. I was shocked by how easy the Treks were once you started going.
